5 Common Mistakes Students Make in JEE Main Numericals

Anand Verma · 18 Mar 2026

After grading thousands of JEE Main mock papers, a pattern becomes obvious: students rarely lose marks to genuinely hard questions. They lose marks to avoidable numerical slips.

1. Unit conversion errors between CGS and SI systems.
2. Sign errors in vector-based Physics problems.
3. Rounding intermediate steps too early in multi-step Chemistry calculations.
4. Misreading "least" as "greatest" under time pressure.
5. Not double-checking the final answer against the expected order of magnitude.

Building a five-minute review habit at the end of every mock test eliminates most of these over a few weeks.
